Action Snow Sports – International Ski School is the most sought-after school in Madarao and surrounding areas. We also own Imai Tokoro restaurant and the Drop Off Bar, which is located just 100 meters from the main ski area and our office.

Staff accommodation is at Alpha Lodge which is also just down the road from the DOB.

Madarao Mountain Resort is located north-west of Tokyo and is a relaxing 1 hour 50 minutes ride on the very comfortable Shinkansen (bullet train) arriving into Iiyama. The resort is one of the fastest growing resorts in the Nagano and Niigata prefectures. While Madarao remains a definite favourite with the Japanese, there are many international seekers of the magic “MadaPow” coming from Australia, Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Singapore and as far away as the UK, Scandinavia and the States.

Jobs & Duties for 2018-19 Positions

 

** Ski & Snowboard Instructors **

Position:                   Full time and some Short term available.

Position Requirements:   Minimum certification required is Alpine Level 1, APSI, CASI, BASI etc.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Teach skiing and snowboarding to adults & children at various levels, showing them the best snow holiday experience ever, so that they will want to come back time and time again.
  • Conduct lessons according to the standards set out by your respective alliance and Action Snow Sports International Ski School.
  • Be aware of timing needed for lifts and teaching terrain so instructors are prompt for line-ups and other lessons.
  • Ensure that your personal schedule and availability is accurate; communicate absences and lateness as soon as possible.
  • Get to know & understand the programs Action snow Sports International Ski School offer and carry prices and maps to share with guests.
  • Be familiar with the safe use and instruction of the resorts chairlifts and magic carpets.
  • Ensure students’ equipment is adequate, safe and comfortable.
  • Know the safety procedures for missing or injured students and guests.
  • Use proper radio etiquette when issued a portable radio.
  • Conclude each lesson by thanking the guest and giving them a lesson round-up of their improvement, explain and show them appropriate terrain to pursue, and expect return business by creating an exciting and memorable lesson.
  • Know and adhere to the 10 Alpine Responsibility Code rules. Teach them to students during lessons.
  • Be punctual, responsible and well-groomed at all times and being prepared to go the extra mile.

Languages:

English is a must.      Some Japanese – Chinese language skills would be a huge bonus, but not totally necessary

** Children’s Ski & SB Instructors for “Kids Club” program **

Position:       Full time and possible Part-time available if requested. Positions are offered to female and male instructors, however, we do strongly encourage females to apply.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teaching and taking care of Kids Club groups.
  • Teach skiing and snowboarding to children & adults at various levels showing them the best snow holiday experience ever, so that they will want to come back time and time again.

  • Be punctual, responsible and well-groomed at all times and being prepared to go the extra mile.
  • Attend training clinics to enhance and improve your riding and teaching ability.
  • Be prepared to assist other departments as needed.
  • Can assess if a customer or staff member does not understand an instruction, policy or requirement and can explain this to them in different ways to make sure they understand.
  • Assist Ski School Director, Supervisors and Team Leaders as required.
  • Be a team player, help out and do other duties if required, don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty and be prepared go the extra mile.

Languages:

English is a must.      Some Japanese – Chinese language skills would be a huge bonus, but not totally necessary

** Office/Reservations and Daycare **

Position:       Full time and Part Time winter seasonal work

Duties & Responsibilities:

Staff will be responsible for all Ski School bookings for products on offer including day care.

Reporting to Ski School director and or Ski School supervisor daily or whenever necessary.

Balancing of daily and weekly takings of all credit card & cash sales, then importing data into system.

Requirements:

Staff should be able to demonstrate high customer service skills and have previous year’s work experience in their field and understand POS booking systems and have good calculating skills. Computer & office skills are necessary.

To be able to assess if a customer or staff member does not understand an instruction, policy or requirement and can explain this to them in different ways to make sure they understand. Must be able to think on your feet and adapt to changing situations & conditions. Must be punctual, responsible, well-groomed and a team player at all times and be prepared to help out and do other duties if required, not afraid to get their hands dirty and will go the extra mile.

Languages:

English is a must.      Some Japanese – Chinese language skills would be a huge bonus, but not totally necessary

** Lodge Manager & Chef **

 Position:                   Full time and possible Part-time available if requested. These positions are offered to female and male or a couple.

Location:                  Alpha Lodge – Madarao Mountain Resort, Nagano Prefecture, Japan

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Lodge Manager is responsible for maintaining the smooth operation of the Lodge complex. To provide leadership to staff, maintain lodge facilities and provide a level of hospitality which meet the company’s and exceeds guest expectations.

 Relationships: Reports to the General Manager (Owner) works closely to GM and operations team.

Authority Level: This position has purchasing authority to order Food and Beverage supplies to restock the Lodge

Key achievements:   

  • Provide a welcoming lodge environment for our customers with high standards of service, meals and housekeeping which meet and exceed the company’s and guests expectations.
  • Maintain the smooth operation of the Lodge bookings, its facilities, infrastructure, services and functions.
  • Manage all staff reporting to the position so as to effectively assist, train, develop, motivate and monitor their activities.
  •  Maintain a safe, harmonious, enjoyable work place environment for staff.
  • To lead by example in a positive and enthusiastic manner.
  • Work closely with the Relief Manager to create a strong management team
  • Communicate and report to senior management on a regular basis in line with company requirements.
  • Gain a clear understanding of the manager’s duties and ensure that these are carried out to or above company standards.

Skills required: Customer Service Skills: An enjoyment of dealing with customers, being friendly, helpful and providing an excellent level of service to customers

People Management:            Can motivate, train, direct and work alongside staff to achieve required goals

Communication Skills:          Can assess if a staff member or customer does not understand an instruction, policy or requirement, and can explain to them in different ways, to make sure they understand.

Team Player: Will help out and do other duties if required, not afraid to get their hands dirty and will go the extra mile.

Decision-making skills:          Must be able to think on your feet and adapt to changing conditions.

Technical Skills:          Must be able to pick up practical skills easily and become proficient in using them.

Problem Solving:       Can assess operational issues and take the best course of action to get them resolved.

Experience required:

  • Staff management experience
  • Hospitality experience
  • Experience working in mountain resort areas or locations would be an advantage
  • Computer skills are definitely desirable

Qualifications:

All qualifications, certificates or references of abilities

Language:

English is a must.      Some Japanese – Chinese language skills would be a huge bonus, but not totally necessary

Description

English is our main language, however, Japanese would definitely be an advantage. The Kitchen will serve breakfast each morning. Dinner will be served approximately 3 nights a week. There is a possibility that we may open as a restaurant, however final decision has not been decided upon as yet
